Getting Government Spending Under Control
The President and our Congressional leaders stay in the headlines with their constant war of words and threats along with blaming each other for the dismal shape that they have taken our economy into. I believe that if they just use a little common sense they could find a path back to financial stability.
I saw a headline in the Huffington Post on July 2, 2011, where President Obama said that “Nothing can be off limits in Budget Talks”. I thought “wow”! Maybe he is going to get serious and get everybody together and get some real solutions to our economic situation.
If he is really serious; the first thing he has to do is take Michelle’s credit cards away! Do you realize that her Africa romp has cost over $750,000.00 so far!
This is in addition to her recent shopping spree in Spain with her daughters and the rest of her entourage. That spree ended up costing the tax payers over $375,000.00.
The next thing that needs to be done is to ask the president to quit giving money to foreign dignitaries every time somebody comes to visit him. It seems he is always giving away a couple of million or promising billions of support. I saw a recent report that said President Obama promised to relieve Egypt of $1 billion worth of debt and guarantee up to $1 billion in loans to help the country regain access to international markets. He said the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corp. will also launch a $2 billion initiative to support private investment in the MENA region.
The President is giving money away like we have a huge cash cache stored someplace that the rest of the politicians don’t know about!
As far as trying to reach an agreement concerning cutting the budget; the politicians in Washington should do what real leaders would do. Assign the Secretaries of the different departments of the President’s cabinet to reduce their budget by at least ten percent. Each year they should continue reducing their spending until it is under control.
In order to solve the problem we have to get the solution out of the hands of politicians that are prone to cronyism! I believe that every department should be able to reduce their costs by at least ten percent.
Balancing the budget is a huge task; however, it needs to be addressed like any big task. You have to address it one part a little at a time. It’s kind of like eating an elephant; you can do it only one bite at a time. We didn’t get into this mess in one year and we are not going to get out of it overnight.
The United States has to understand that we cannot be everything to everybody. We need to fix our country and help our people before we can solve the problems of the rest of the world!
